Baby Leaf or "Spring Mix" Harvester

In this photograph the harvester is cutting "baby" spinach. The complete gamut of spring mix can be cut as well.

The machine features a bandsaw cutter which deposits product onto a pick-up belt. This assembly rides on a gauge roller and is counterbalanced with springs allowing it to "float" on the top of the bed. The floating pick-up belt delivers product to a two-stage sort belt. The sort belt drops out undersize and partially cut leaves. Sorting at this stage in the process is optimum because the leafy material is just freshly cut, and it is delivered to the sort belt in a layer no more than one leaf thick. After sorting, a fine water mist is applied before spilling the product into the totes.

The 5500 lb. harvester features 4-wheel drive and skid steering. It can be easily moved from field to field on a tilt bed trailer. 15 lb. totes can typically be filled at a rate of 10 per minute.
